Ridgways has been blending tea since 1836, when Thomas Ridgway opened his first shop on King William Street in London. By 1886 they were producing tea for Queen Victoria's personal use and were later appointed tea merchants to King George VI. Their Earl Grey is built on Fairtrade black tea from Nilgiri, India - the Blue Mountains region - a lighter, more delicate base than the Assam or Ceylon used by most Earl Greys, which lets the natural bergamot oil shine without a heavy malty foundation underneath it. Made in England under the care of a master tea blender.
Smooth, aromatic, and elegantly balanced. The Nilgiri base gives a subtle floral quality that complements the bergamot beautifully - fragrant and citrusy without being aggressive. Best served without milk, with a slice of lemon if you want to brighten the citrus notes further. Individually wrapped string and tag teabags.
If you enjoy Ridgways Earl Grey, our Scotch and Abram's Earl Grey is our take on that same fragrant, bergamot-forward cup - smooth, refined, and aromatic.
