About This Tea

King Cole Tea has been blended in Atlantic Canada since 1910, when G.E. Barbour acquired the brand and began selling it from the wharves of Saint John, New Brunswick. Now based in Sussex, New Brunswick, Barbours is the only tea manufacturer in Atlantic Canada, and King Cole remains their flagship brand. Recognised by its distinctive bright orange packaging, the brand has built a loyal following across Canada and beyond over more than a century of continuous operation.

This Masala Chai is built on King Cole's traditional black tea base, blended with chai flavouring and masala spice. The spice sits at the front of each sip, balanced by a firm black tea underneath rather than overpowering it. It is best served with milk, which rounds out the spice and brings the blend together. Comes in a 20-teabag format, making it an accessible introduction to King Cole's take on a classic chai.

If you enjoy this chai, our Scotch & Abrams Vanilla Chai Tea is our take on a spiced black tea base with an added layer of smooth vanilla sweetness.

How to brew the perfect cup
  1. Boil fresh water and allow it to cool very briefly, to around 95°C (200°F).
  2. Place one teabag in your mug and pour over the hot water.
  3. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how strong you prefer your spice.
  4. Remove the teabag and add milk to taste. A splash of warm milk works particularly well with masala chai.
How does it compare?

Morse's Orange Pekoe shares the same Canadian heritage and a similar black tea base, but without any spice, making it the straightforward everyday option. Scotch & Abrams Vanilla Chai adds a sweet, creamy vanilla note to the spiced chai format for those who prefer something a little richer. Heath & Heather's Apple & Cinnamon offers a warming, spiced character with no caffeine for those who want a similar cosy feel without the black tea base.
