Taylors Decaffeinated Earl Grey is a decaffeinated black tea blended with bergamot. Bergamot is a citrus flavor, similar to orange. Bergamot oil is extracted from the peel of the bergamot orange. The bergamot orange is the small pear shaped sour orange cultivated today mostly in southern Italy.
Taylors uses the natural carbon dioxide method to produce decaffeinated tea. The less common, but more expensive, carbon dioxide (CO2) method involves putting the tea leaves into water and adding liquid carbon dioxide. When the water and carbon dioxide are drained off, the caffeine is removed, which leaves a decaffeinated tea leaf. Taylors Decaffeinated Earl Grey Tea is best served black or with a slice of lemon.
